About Me

This is Me

My name is Bec Carter, I am 47 and my story is slightly complicated.

In March 1995, while I was still a senior in high school, I got married to the person I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with. I was told, because of my PCOS, I was never going to be able to have children. Despite this diagnosis, I became pregnant and was blessed with a daughter. She was born premature, two months early, weighing only 4 pounds and 2 ounces. (I am very pleased to say that she is now a healthy and bright 20 year old who has grown into an amazing young woman!)

When she was born, everything was stable and life was good for a little over eight years. Unfortunately, my husband's narcissism and alcohol addiction began to consume our lives. I lived under his control for 29 years before I finally decided I needed to put myself first. After so many failed attempts at getting him help to recover from his addictions, it became clear he had no desire to change. With nowhere left to turn, we made the choice to get a divorce. My marriage broke me in ways I had never imagined. Things have started to become clear as I am finally able to breathe freely and focus on getting myself help.

I have struggled with depression and being overweight for most of my life. During the months following the divorce, I lost 120 pounds. There have been plenty of ups and downs, but I am working on becoming the best version of myself, learning to heal and love myself for who I am along the way. I am not perfect and have made plenty of mistakes, but I am learning as I go. So far, what has helped me with healing is to learn how to improve from my mistakes instead of letting them destroy me, to learn the importance of following my gut instinct, and to learn to trust that God will help me through every step of my journey.

It is one of my greatest passions to help people. I am starting this blog because I know there are people who can relate to my journey and I would like for you all to join me as I start this new chapter of my life. Hopefully you can gain some new ideas, perspectives, and motivations that will help you on your journey as well. I find great joy in my adventure, it is allowing me to get in shape and feel better than I ever have before in my life. One thing you should know about me is that I take pride in everything I do: my job, cooking, gardening and working outdoors, learning new things, et cetera. I also have a deep love for everything fantasy and fairytales; I strive to incorporate it in any aspect of my life that I can (though you probably already figured that out by the design of this blog).
